… Alina Habba Cross-Examines E. Jean Carroll …

What a mess.

After a testy morning of exchanges during the direct examination of E. Jean Carroll by her lawyer, Alina Habba finally had her chance

to cross-examine her.

Throughout the morning’s testimony,  Judge Lewis A. Kaplan had to repeatedly admonish Habba for basic things like standing up when making

an objection, keeping objections in front of the jury brief, and not repeating objections that were already ruled on.

At one point, Habba complained about how the Judge addressed her and was told to sit down.

The judge also instructed Trump not to make audibly loud comments to Habba that the jury could hear.

During direct, Carroll detailed all the death threats and harassment she received from Trump supporters every time he would attack her

in the media and on social media.

She said that she would receive hundreds of messages a day from Trump supporters calling her a liar, stating that she was ugly,

and threatening her with violence.

She was accused of being paid by DNC operatives or George Soros, which she denied.

She was sent photos of women who had been violently murdered with warnings that would be her.

She said that in response to the threats she kept her pitbull off the leash, put in an electric fence and bought bullets for the gun

she inherited from her father.

When asked what prompted her to sue, she said that she met George Conway at a party and he explained to her the differences

between a civil and a criminal case and referred her to an attorney if she wanted to do anything about the continued threats and harassment.

As they were about to play a video of Trump disparaging Carroll, the judge called a break in the trial.

Carroll’s lawyer complained that Trump was still being loud and they could hear him complaining that it was a “con job” and a “witch hunt.”

Judge Kaplan then warned that he would be removed from the courtroom if he continued to ignore his order to be quiet:

“Mr. Trump, I hope I don’t have to consider excluding you from the trial.”

Trump then responded:

After the parties returned from afternoon break, Trump’s attorney made a motion to disqualify the judge, citing an “atmosphere of hostility”

towards them from the judge.

You can read more about that here.

Obviously, Judge Kaplan denied the motion.

Habba then began her cross-examination of Carroll.

She began by attempting to impeach Carroll on her testimony that she moved from Montana to New York because it was boring.

However, Habba demonstrated that she didn’t understand how to do that properly, so the judge took a recess to attempt to instruct her.

She came back, and still couldn’t do it right.

She finally gave up.

Habba then went through the various advice books to women that Carroll published with provocative sounding titles like

‘Female Difficulties,’ ‘Sorority Sisters,’ ‘Rodeo Queens,’ ‘Frigid Women,’ ‘What Do We Need Men For,’ and ‘Smut Stars.’

She testified that she was working at Elle Magazine and doing well financially until the magazine industry collapsed and her salary was cut

to $60,000 a year in 2018.

(This testimony appears to be designed to show that she started to make a lot less money shortly before making the allegations against Trump).

At one point, Habba was struggling again to impeach Carroll about whether she was aware that people didn’t believe her story even before Trump

first commented on it.

However, she couldn’t figure out again how to do that and the judge took another recess for her to perhaps consult with another lawyer

who might be able to teach her how.

Judge Lewis A. Kaplan

Habba then began a lengthy line of inquiry attempting to argue that Carroll was a narcissist seeking attention and that’s why

she made the allegations against Trump.

She attempted to show that by mentioning the number of media interviews that she did, including one with MeidasTouch.

She also mentioned that Mary Trump was writing a book about her story, but Carroll said she wasn’t getting any money from that project.

The day ended with a whimper as Habba attempted to score points by pointing out that the gun Carroll bought to defend herself against hundreds

of MAGA death threats was unlicensed, and she was friends with comedian Kathy Griffin who once posed with a severed head of Trump.

It is unclear whether any additional cross-examination will continue tomorrow.
